Sam Smith wins four Grammy awards, thanks the man who 'broke my heart'

If 2008 was Amy Winehouse's year and Adele dominated 2012, then 2015 was truly all about Sam Smith, with the singer becoming the latest Brit to enjoy huge success at the Grammy Awards, walking away with four awards to his name on Sunday.
The 22-year-old singer has enjoyed huge success on both sides of the Atlantic with his debut album, In The Lonely Hour, selling over one million copies in the US and the UK last year. At the 57th Grammy Awards, those sales were honoured with golden trophies, as Smith won Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album, as well as Best Record and Best Song for "Stay With Me". This meant the British singer achieved a greater haul of Grammys on the night than Pharrell Williams and Beyonce, who both left with three gongs.

In his many acceptance speeches, Smith was candid in his revelations about what drove him to write the album and the difficulty he had in reaching this stage in his career.
After winning his final trophy, Smith said, "This is the best night of my life. Just a quick one: I want to thank the man who this record is about, who I fell in love with last year. Thank you so much for breaking my heart because you got me four Grammys."
Upon winning Best Pop Vocal Album, Smith said, "I just wanna say that before I made this record, I was doing everything to try to get my music heard...I tried to lose weight and I was making awful music. It was when I started to be myself that the music flowed."
Smith did not win Best Album of the Year. That instead went to Beck for Morning Phase. That title is seen as the Grammys' top prize and it was the first time Beck has won the award.
As Beck took to the stage to accept the award, Kanye West pretended to barge the stage and protest Beck's win, mocking his infamous moment with Taylor Swift a few years ago.
